Scientific Curriculum
History of lasers, electromagnetic spectrum, wavelengths, solid-state laser construction, laser parameters, beam profiles, and delivery systems.
Thermal, mechanical, electrical, and fire hazards. Management of chemical and eye hazards, protective goggles, and safety standard implementation.
In-depth study of Ablation, Transmission, Reflection, and Scattering mechanisms with dedicated hands-on training for all types.

Dr Scott Benjamin and Dr Doug Hanson
Dr. Scott Benjamin
Dr. Scott Benjamin is an internationally recognized expert on dental lasers and advanced dental technologies. He is in private practice in upstate New York where he utilizes several different lasers of various wavelengths on an everyday basis. Scott has faculty appointments at several universities overseeing their laser programs and is a Past-Chair of ADEA’s Special Interest Group on Laser in Dentistry. Additionally, Dr. Benjamin Co-Chairs the ADA Standards Committee Working Group on Dental Lasers and is an active voting member of ANSI Committee Z136 on Laser Safety and is a Past-President of the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD).
Dr Douglas Hanson
Dr. Douglas Hanson attended Laurentian University from 1985-1988, completing his BSc, and subsequently attended the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry with his DDS degree in 1992. He began his professional practice in June of 1992. Dr. Hanson completed his fellowship at the Las Vegas Institute for advanced dentistry in 2014. In 2019 he received his second fellowship in the International Association of Physiologic Aesthetics. He is a clinical instructor and part time lecturer at the Las Vegas Institute. He is also the Canadian chapter President of the international Association of Physiologic Aesthetics. Master in Laser Dentistry at the Laser and Health Academy in 2021 and was awarded his Master of Science.
