Course Outline
Objective of the fourth module
The fourth module of the Master's Program (3 days) covers laser-based therapies for oral, peri-oral and adjacent external soft-tissue applications available exclusively with Fotona laser systems.
This module is designed to expand participants' knowledge of additional laser procedures and protocols supported by their Fotona equipment.
Peri-oral and adjacent soft-tissue laser procedures
- Understand the structure of the skin, different skin types, and the biological processes of skin ageing.
- Explore the technologies and handpieces available with LightWalker and their applications in enhancing dental and facial aesthetic treatment planning.
- Identify the key factors that influence clinical decision-making and parameter selection for aesthetic laser treatments.
- Discover effective non-ablative intraoral and perioral laser applications that complement smile makeover procedures.
- Gain essential knowledge on facial skin resurfacing and the management of pigmented lesions, including treatment possibilities, limitations, and regulatory considerations.
- Understand the use of the Nd:YAG wavelength for facial hair reduction and the treatment of vascular lesions.
- Explore the relationship between the oral microbiome and some skin conditions, and how LightWalker technologies can help address these concerns.
- Observe live patient demonstrations to consolidate learning and translate theory into clinical practice.

Dr Linhlan Nguyen and Doug Hanson
Dr Linhlan Nguyen
Dr. Linhlan Nguyen is a General Practitioner in Canberra, Australia. She completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Sydney in Australia in 1996. Her private clinic emphasizes dentofacial aesthetics and laser assisted dentistry. Dr. Nguyen obtained the Master in Laser Dentistry at the Laser and Health Academy in 2017 and was awarded her Master of Science in Laser Dentistry at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in 2020. She has been a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists since 2015 and the International Academy for Dental-Facial Esthetics since 2016. Dr. Nguyen is passionate in TMD myofascial pain management, airway health and sleep medicine. She is a Dermal Therapist and completed her Graduate Diploma of Cosmetic Dermal Science in 2023.
Dr Douglas Hanson
Dr. Douglas Hanson attended Laurentian University from 1985-1988, completing his BSc, and subsequently attended the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry with his DDS degree in 1992. He began his professional practice in June of 1992. Dr. Hanson completed his fellowship at the Las Vegas Institute for advanced dentistry in 2014. In 2019 he received his second fellowship in the International Association of Physiologic Aesthetics. He is a clinical instructor and part time lecturer at the Las Vegas Institute. He is also the Canadian chapter President of the international Association of Physiologic Aesthetics. Master in Laser Dentistry at the Laser and Health Academy in 2021 and was awarded his Master of Science.
